Hi my name is Irvin from 702pcrepair.com
So I made a video, that explained the situation with apple products in particular it was about the MacBook Pro a1502 screen model.
You can take a look at it here.
To sum it up, if it's worth having it repaired?
The answer really depends on two things.
Where are you getting your Laptop screen from, and who is it being repaired by. Lets take a look at the following situation for your MacBook.
The retail price for your MacBook is around $350 (used) to $650 (New/refurbished).
If you where to go to a third party repair shop, the computer repair shop will 9 times out of 10 purchase a computer part from eBay. So with a quick eBay search, i have gotten the rough estimate of the part price, which comes out anywhere from $300 to $400. Now a 3rd party tech is going to charge anywhere between $70 to $150 for the install. Overall at a 3rd party vendor your looking at a final fee of anywhere between $370 to $550.
Now you have to factor in the fact on whether you would rather purchase a brand new MacBook or repair one. In the end it's a lose lose situation.
3rd party repair shops would love to make the price cheap, but the problem is that Apple loves having owner rights over all the products they own so they can charge the client a ridiculous price.
anyway I hope that answered your question. But in my opinion, your better of buying a new screen, or seeing if you can get a deal on eBay. Just check on it every once in a while, and you may get lucky and find a good part, install it yourself and maybe save $50-$100 versus buying it.
